Hoboken Swears In 2 Re-Elected Council Members, 1 Newcomer

Hoboken Mayor Bhalla and two council members who were re-elected took the oath of office, and a new councilman was sworn in.

HOBOKEN, NJ — On New Year's Day, recently re-elected Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla and re-elected City Council members Jim Doyle and Emily Jabbour were sworn in to their next terms. Joe Quintero, a political newcomer who won election to the nine-member council on their slate in November, was also sworn in.

City Clerk James Farina administered the oaths of office at a ceremony limited to family due to
the pandemic.

“It is the honor of a lifetime to be sworn in for a second term as Hoboken mayor,” said Bhalla. “I’m looking forward to the next four years as we make Hoboken an even better place to live. Thank you to my family and all of the supporters who have been a part of this journey. I know that for Hoboken, the best is yet to come.”

Bhalla was sworn in with his hand on the Gutka, a book of Sikh scriptures and spiritual hymns.

“We are humbled and privileged to serve the residents of Hoboken on the City Council,” said Councilmembers Doyle, Jabbour, and Quintero in a statement. “We are grateful to our community for giving us the opportunity to serve the public and are eager to continue tackling the many issues before us. Thanks to City Clerk James Farina for swearing us in today, and to the residents of our great city for putting their trust in us.”

Mayor Bhalla and Councilwoman Jabbour are starting their second terms, while Doyle is starting his third.

Hoboken has a full-time mayor and nine-member City Council. Hoboken elections are non-partisan.
