Hoboken Native Celebrates Opening of Uptown Spa

Hoboken native Vivian Rivera had been working for Verizon when she decided she wanted to leave the corporate world. She had always thought about owning a business, but she wasn't sure what kind.

Then she thought about her interest in fashion and focused on nails. “I thought it would be something fun to do,” she said. Rivera went back to school to learn the nail business and reached her goal this past weekend by opening the V Spot Nail Spa at 159 14^th Street.

Rivera said she wants the V Spot to avoid looking and feeling like a typical mani-pedi place. “I don't want people to feel like they're being rushed in and out,” she said.

Instead, Rivera wants her spa to be a gathering spot, especially for parties.”I want it to feel like you're at a girlfriend's house,” she said. “Someplace where you can hang out and feel pampered.” Rivera said the spa will serve coffee and tea among other treats, and sometimes mimosas, and that she is converting the backyard of the building into a lounge.

Rivera said that the new spa will run a summer-long special manicure and pedicure package for $45. Currently the spa, which has two extra employees for now, also offers massages and body waxing, and Rivera said she plans to add eyelash extending, spray tanning and other services, plus retail products soon.

The V Spot Nail Spa is open Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12pm to 6:30pm, Thursdays and Fridays from 12pm to 7:30pm, and Saturdays from 9am to 7:30pm. For more information visit the spa's Facebook page.
