HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla said Thursday that the city and NJ Transit have added two bus stops to the west side of town. The stops will be added in fall on Clinton Street and on Willow Avenue.

NJ Transit resumed its full train and light rail schedule this past Monday, and had done so with buses last month. But they continue to follow coronavirus precaution guidelines, such as requiring masks.

“Good news," Bhalla wrote Thursday, "NJ Transit has partnered with Hoboken to add an additional bus stop along the 126 route on Clinton Street, which will now be at Fifth [Street] and between Seventh and Eighth Streets on Clinton (replacing the Sixth and Clinton stop), which will add much needed capacity during rush hour traffic, and reduce the long lines that were previously routine at the Sixth and Clinton stop in the morning."

This route takes travelers to the Port Authority Bus Terminal in New York City.

NJ Transit is also adding a new bus stop at Second and Willow to assist travelers heading in the other direction, downtown.

Bhalla wrote, "Together, these changes will also help increase efficiencies in service as buses travel uptown where there is also overcrowding, reducing wait times as well. Combined with the announcement earlier this year of additional, dedicated articulated buses to the 126 route in Hoboken, we are continuing to partner with NJ Transit on real, concrete transportation improvements within our mile square, adding capacity, and modernizing our bus stops."

"I thank Governor Murphy and Executive Director Corbett for prioritizing areas like Hoboken that depend on mass transit, and the NJ Transit staff who have been working closely with my staff over the past year to implement these positive changes. These additional stops will be activated for the fall.”
