Hoboken Pastrami House Deli Finally Opens, And Here's The Menu
The long-awaited kosher-style deli on Washington Street held its soft opening Saturday, Jan. 4, with a line outside the door.
HOBOKEN, NJ —Hoboken has a lot of great places to eat, but for many years it has lacked a Jewish-style deli like in Manhattan. Finally, the Pastrami House deli opened this weekend after a long wait, drawing a line out the door on both Saturday and Sunday starting at 11 a.m. (It's not unusual for Hoboken residents to line up for deli food on weekends, especially some of the local favorites).
The Saturday, Jan. 4 kickoff was actually a "soft opening." The owner said he's not sure of the permanent hours yet -- but Patch has the full menu and information above, among our photos.
This is the third Pastrami House location in New Jersey, with the others in Matawan/Aberdeen and Lincroft. A Staten Island location is coming soon, and the owner said he may try Florida next.

Pastrami House describes itself as a "Kosher-style" deli, as not everything is Kosher. (Technically, Kosher refers to the ancient Biblical laws that detail which types of food a Jewish person may eat and how it must be prepared. Meat and dairy can't be prepared together. An expert must certify the ingredients in every Kosher product, and the preparation process, as Kosher too.) But the restaurant has the usual New York Jewish deli fare -- sandwiches overstuffed with corned beef, pastrami, turkey, roast beef, cheese, cole slaw, and dressing (you can get smaller versions if you like), on rye, wheat, white bread, or a roll; along with fresh matzo ball soup, knishes, and sweet potato and regular potato pancakes.
There are breakfast sandwiches including eggs, omelettes, and bagels.

And check out the gigantic desserts: huge muffins, rice pudding, Junior cheesecake, rugelach, and more.
Meat is available by the pound, and there are a number of hot dog options, including a Reuben Dog with shredded Swiss and Russian dressing, and a Pastrami Dog.
The eatery offers an array of soups, salads, and sides — including chicken noodle soup with matzo ball that would make your mother proud (especially if you have a cold!) There's no indoor seating so far, but they do cater.
The front of the menu offers a special: Taylor ham (or is it pork roll?), egg and cheese with small coffee ($4.99) from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Now, that's Jersey.
The restaurant is located at 832 Washington St., and can be reached at 201-683-4123.
