HOBOKEN, NJ — Compared to the southern part of Hoboken near the train station, the uptown section has a much smaller selection of restaurants, even with northern waterfront development burgeoning in the last 20 years. But the addition of Shokudo Japanese Ramen Udon Yakitori Bar on 14th Street, and a few other recent openings, will help change that.

The owners of Shokudo were inside their new restaurant on Friday afternoon, putting the finishing touches on it. They said they hope to open the following weekend, the second weekend in February. Signage first went up in summer 2019.

Shokudo's Piscataway location features dishes including traditional Japanese side dishes, rice bowls, and ramen bowls, such as their most expensive ramen bowl at $13.95: "Fresh oysters in creamy pork broth topped with moyashi, hakusai, menma, negi, kikurage mushroom and nori flakes."

The new Hoboken eatery is located at 61 14th St., slightly east of the main drag of Washington Street and a few blocks from the Hudson River. It's near other popular uptown restaurants such as City Bistro across the street, Hudson Tavern, and a relatively new poke bowl shop called Proven Poke.
