UPDATED Hoboken Storm Alert: Rain, Wind, Possible Floods Monday

HOBOKEN, NJ — If rainy days and Mondays get you down, you may really not like this Monday, but you'll still have to prepare.

Many areas of Hoboken flood during severe storms, particularly if there's a downpour in conjunction with high tide. Over the summer, two "fifty-year storms," or storms that are theoretically supposed to occur once in fifty years, flooded streets and trapped cars. Forecast update: This Monday, high tide is expected at 8:11 a.m. and 8:45 p.m. (click here for daily tides), bookending the storm. Rain expected to start around 7 a.m. and continue on and off through 8 p.m., with thunderstorms between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and the heaviest rain from 11 a.m. to noon.

Here is what the city of Hoboken says:

A storm watch is in effect for Monday, Nov. 30. Heavy rain, thunderstorms, and wind gusts of up to 55 MPH are expected, with rain totals of 1 to 2 inches. Any intense rainfall of greater than 0.8 inch per hour may result in flash flooding in low-lying areas.

Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines, resulting in power outages. Please report power outages and downed wires to PSEG at https://nj.myaccount.pseg.com/myservicepublic/outagepublic.

Residents and businesses should secure all loose objects including holiday decorations, especially on balconies. Outdoor tents and canopies should be taken down depending on wind load.

The city of Hoboken and North Hudson Sewerage Authority are working together to clear clogged catch basins throughout the City. Please report flooded intersections and clogged drain inlets by calling the NHSA Hotline at 866.689.3970.

Due to the likelihood of flooding in some areas, the Office of Emergency Management is taking precautions by putting no parking signs (“No Parking Signs” in these areas should be taken as advisories, cars will not be towed) and barricades near flood prone intersections. Please do not drive around barricades.
