Hoboken Sportswriter Releases Fantasy Baseball Stat Forecasting Book
The science of predicting baseball statistics isn't exact, but a Hoboken resident has a few tips to make your fantasy team better.

Hoboken, NJ – The science of predicting baseball statistics isn’t exact.
That’s what Hoboken resident Mike Podhorzer, the author of “Projecting X 2.0: How to Forecast Baseball Player Performance,” had to say during a recent interview on the MLB Network’s Hot Stove Live.
“Let’s be honest, we’re dealing with human beings,” Podhorzer said.

But that doesn’t mean you can’t use statistics to become a better fantasy baseball league owner, according to Podhorzer.
“The great thing about the statistical revolution is that every year, were getting more and more data,” the 2015 Fantasy Sports Writers Association Baseball Writer of the Year told Hot Stove Live.

Podhorzer’s new book, a follow up to the first version of “Projecting X,” includes methodologies to project BABIP, RBI and runs scored, stolen bases, and pitcher strikeout and walk percentages among other stats.
Fair warning… math may be required. According to the book’s website, it includes a “step-by-step tutorial on developing a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet to perform the calculations.”

“I never dreamed that I would someday publish a book, whether physical or electronic,” Podhorzer states on his website.
“It all started in the late 1990s when I picked up a free copy of Ron Shandler’s Baseball Forecaster at a sports card show. After reading the annual publication from cover to cover, I would never look at baseball statistics the same way again. Having been completely immersed in the exciting world of fantasy baseball, I began forecasting baseball player performance and producing projections of my own, and have been doing so ever since. Following years of spreadsheets and calculations, I finally made the decision to share my process with the world.”
