Hoboken Trader Joe’s Coming In 2017: Willow Avenue and 14th Street

Expect to see a Trader Joe's in Hoboken by the first half of 2017, company officials say.

HOBOKEN, NJ — For those who have been sitting on the edges of their seats for official word as to when the long-awaited Hoboken Trader Joe’s will open, the wait is over.

On Wednesday, the supermarket chain announced that its new location at the corner of Willow Avenue and 14th Street will open in “the first half of 2017.”

News of the Hoboken store has been swirling in the Mile Square City since last year, when reports leaked that that Advance at Hoboken, LLC – the developers of the mixed-use complex at the corner of Willow and 14th - filed a Certificate of Zoning application that includes architectural drawings for a Trader Joe’s on the ground floor.

In April, Hoboken city officials called for a public meeting about the plans for a new store, informing the public about a pending agreement between the City of Hoboken and Advance at Hoboken that would remove 24 parking spaces from 13th Street and Clinton Street in order to address pedestrian safety concerns and safely accommodate the turns of delivery trucks.

Soon afterwards, Hoboken’s neighbor Jersey City announced that it had scored a Whole Foods supermarket, prompting HMag to weigh in about the new locations with the following tagline: “Mutually Assured Gentrification.”
