Discounted Parking In Hoboken During Storm Ian; Wind Gusts And Inch Of Rain In Forecast

Hoboken has offered discounted parking for residents as forecasters predict days of rain and a weekend of wind gusts.

HOBOKEN, NJ — As the remnants of Hurricane Ian arrive, the revised weekend forecast for Hoboken calls for more wind and rain than previously expected.

The city of Hoboken is offering discounted parking into Saturday night, to protect cars from flooding. See more information here.

The city advises residents not to try to drive through floodwaters.

The National Weather Service says for Saturday morning: "Rain likely, mainly after 2 a.m. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible."

Then, later Saturday: "Rain, mainly before 2 p.m. Steady temperature around 56. Northeast wind 13 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80 percent. New precipitation amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch
possible."

Wind gusts are also forecast for Sunday, up to 29 mph.

While Hurricane Ian isn't going to smash into New Jersey from the sea like Superstorm Sandy did 10 years ago, a storm that weakens over land can still bring heavy wind and rain, as with the fatal Tropical Depression Ida only one year ago.

A potential rainfall map from the National Hurricane Center for the next three days shows an area stretching to New York City.
