Ice Cream Eating Contest, Artisan Market Still On For Hoboken Sunday

As of now, even with rain, the ice cream festival and eating contest, "Mile Square Meltdown," are on for Hoboken on Sunday.

HOBOKEN, NJ — What's said to be the world's largest ice cream eating contest is scheduled to kick off in Hoboken Sunday with various age groups. It's part of a monthly artisan market under the city's 14th Street Viaduct.

All of the events are still on, even with some rain expected, noted organizers, particularly because the market's under the Viaduct.

Moo Jersey, an artisan ice cream company, along with Main Street Pops and the Hoboken Family Alliance, are hosting the "Mile Square Meltdown" festival on June 12.

Even without a ticket, anyone can come enjoy the monthly craft and food market, featuring local businesses.

"The contest and festival are [open] to all, and we recommend registering for a time slot in advance," said the organizers. "There will be walk-on tickets sold as well, if any are available. Tickets are $6 and will increase to $10 for walk-on. In addition to the contest, there will be an ice cream sundae bar. Contestants have the choice of entering a pint or half pint race to win the coveted Golden Cone Trophy."

Participants should plan to arrive 10 minutes prior to their race time.

Contestants will be able to take a picture with their times at the photo booth. The winner of the Golden Cone will be announced at the end of the day.
