Ice Cream Summer In Hoboken: Shop Will Replace Giorgio's, 2 Gelato Stores Coming
It's ice cream madness in Hoboken this summer: The city may get 3 new ice cream and gelato shops including woman-owned Brix House.

HOBOKEN, NJ — The former longtime Giorgio's Bakery in Hoboken is going to become a woman-owned ice cream shop at the end of summer, according to an article this week — while two corner gelato shops are also closer to their opening date.
The former Giorgio's Bakery at 1111 Washington St. shut down in November after 47 years. But according to Hoboken Girl, restaurateur Tara Glick plans to open an ice cream shop called Brix Haus in September, with a garden in back to grow ingredients.
The shop will also open a location in Brooklyn, and has a website here.

Glick, who owns Porter at Port Imperial in Weehawken, is a pastry chef who always wanted to open an ice cream shop, the story says.
Meanwhile, as reported in Hoboken Patch in March, a new location Il Laboratorio Del Gelato, known for 300 flavors, will open at the former Hudson News store at Fifth and Washington streets. READ MORE: Hoboken Daily News Store Replaced By Gelato 'Laboratory'

The owners said in an e-mail that they hope to open after July 4.
And just down the block from an elementary school (heavens!), Kikilu Gelato says it will open this year at the corner of Ninth and Garden streets. They said in April that their new gelato machine had arrived, and noted that they'll be offering espresso as well.

Hoboken already has a few ice cream shops to choose from, such as the independently owned Thomas' Ice Cream on the west side of town, and chains like Ben & Jerry's, 16 Handles, and Cold Stone. Several delis and cafes also sell ice cream, gelato, or ice cream cups.
