Hello Indiegrove Community,

It is with some sadness, but mostly pride, gratitude and hope, that I let you know that Indiegrove will be closing permanently at the end of September.

It is hard to capture what the last 8 years have been like for me. I started Indiegrove to create a space for entrepreneurs and independent professionals to work and grow. I believe in the power of people and that the best way to build and change communities is from the bottom up. In 2012, Jersey City was on the brink of major changes and endless development and there were hardly any services for entrepreneurs and small businesses, especially non brick and mortar businesses.

Back then our members were mostly solopreneurs, artists, nonprofits, freelancers, startups and people who believed in what we were doing. Over the years, tech companies, financial firms and nicely funded businesses started to consider Jersey City a home and came to Indiegrove.

We were able to convince most of them that saying Good Morning, listening to other perspectives and Community Lunch are a great way of working and living. Through that transition, like all small businesses, we faced many challenges and the forces that be, i.e. landlord, developers, snobby newcomers, tried their best to silence us, but we persevered. When you walked through our doors you knew you were part of something good. All said and done, I can say we fulfilled our mission.

I am so proud of the community we created. We have the realist, most creative and coolest people in Jersey City. Hundreds of millions of dollars and countless jobs have been created by our members. I have witnessed so many amazing ideas start, take off and change the world. We created a culture of people first, then profit, and all in the context of building successful businesses. I hope that we will continue to dig deeper and push ourselves as individuals, businesses, a city and as a society. It is not about looking better. It is about being better. I am hopeful about the future and the possibilities that have come to the surface in recent months. I am so grateful for everyone who was part of this journey. Thank you Indiegrove community! Thank you to all of our partners! Thank you Jersey City!

The Indiegrove Values:

  • Be Original
  • Be Bold
  • Own It
  • Kindness
  • Simplicity

Peace, -Zahra
