Jersey City Mom Was 'Violently' Attacked In Turks & Caicos, She Says

"Paradise can turn into a nightmare for anyone but especially a woman," says the Jersey City woman on her fundraising page.

JERSEY CITY, NJ — A Jersey City mom who recently returned from a vacation in Turks & Caicos islands says she was brutally attacked there and may now have to face her attacker in court.

Suyapa Ramos posted a GoFundMe this week saying that because no taxis were running at the time she wanted to get back to her hotel after dining out, she got a ride home from a man who knew people at the bar "and stated that he does taxi as well."

Then, her paradise turned into a "complete nightmare," she says:

"[He] attacked me violently. I fought for my life and managed to run to the road and flag a car down and these angels took me to the hospital! But I was hurt badly. He was charged with grievous bodily harm with intent but was allowed bail with a court day in May which is not a guarantee that he will not flee from here to then."

She noted, "It’s on the news in Turks and Caicos ... they are reporting it as a woman was attacked not an American tourist to save their tourism."

She identified this story as the one associated with her case.

Patel has launched a GoFundMe for medical bills, saying, "It’s taking a lot of thought to even decide to share my story with you all. I am a very private person . But i will like to share to also bring awareness. I went on vacation to the Turks and Caicos island. What seemed like a place of paradise on my last day turned into a complete nightmare."

The U.S. State Department urges caution when traveling to the islands, because of crime.
