HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla announced Saturday that Hoboken Councilman Jim Doyle — who had said days ago that he won't run for a third term on the City Council — will now join Bhalla's slate of three at-large council candidates for the upcoming Nov. 2 municipal election, replacing Dini Ajmani.

Ajmani is bowing out because of personal reasons that just emerged, the campaign said.

“Councilman Jim Doyle comes to every issue facing the City Council prepared, well-informed and ready to offer pragmatic solutions that move Hoboken forward,” said Bhalla. “I am so pleased that Jim is making the sacrifice of postponing some of the family time he was looking forward to and so richly deserved, once again putting Hoboken first.”

Bhalla wished Ajmani well.

All candidates for the mayoralty and for the three at-large seats on the nine-member City Council must file to run by Aug. 30 at 4 p.m.

In Hoboken, municipal elections are not partisan (Republicans vs. Democrats). Instead, individuals or slates can run against each other.
