Kosher Style Deli Opens on First Street

Hoboken on Rye is open seven days a week and serves traditional deli staples.

Hoboken on Rye, the new kosher style deli at 164 First St. opened for business last Thursday. The storefront had been .

The deli serves kosher style sandwiches, bagels, salads, soups, pastries, coffee and other traditional deli staples. Customers have the option of ordering carryout, delivery or catered service.

Hoboken on Rye is family owned and operated, led by Jon Blair, his sister Ashley and their parents. The family has deep roots in Hoboken. Its ancestors ran a kosher market on Willow Avenue during the 1890's.

“It's been fun, we all work well together,” Ashley Blair said.

With its location along the busy First Street thoroughfare, Ashley Blair said the amount of business the deli has seen during its first few days has been a welcome surprise. She said last Sunday was a particularly busy day.

“We did not expect it to be as crowded as we have been,” she said.

Hoboken on Rye is open from 10am-8pm Monday through Saturday, and from 9am-4pm on Sundays. The deli will launch its website soon, but for now customers can call 201-710-5450 for more information.
