Large Area Of Hoboken Left Without Power During Blackout

A large swath of southeast Hoboken was left without power after an incident at a PSE&G substation, authorities said.

HOBOKEN, NJ — A large swath of southeast Hoboken was left without power on Thursday night, authorities said.

City officials announced at 7:26 p.m. that portions of southeast Hoboken were without power due to an incident at 12th and Madison Streets.

“The Hoboken Office of Emergency Management is on scene, residents are asked to please stay away from the 12th/Madison intersection,” officials stated. “If your building is without power, Hoboken PD recommends remaining in your residence, that is the safest place to be. Hoboken PD, FD and EMS are on the scene at all affected areas.”

Hoboken officials announced at 8:45 p.m. that power was restored to the area. However, residents were asked to continue to avoid the intersection of 12th and Madison Streets.

Hoboken Councilman Michael DeFusco posted the following Twitter message about the incident:

Other Hoboken city officials praised emergency responders for their quick actions during the blackout.
