Man Charged With Theft Of Delivery Truck And DWI In Hoboken
A Jersey City man, 24, was among four people charged with DWI in Hoboken last weekend. He was also charged with theft of a motor vehicle.
HOBOKEN, NJ — A Jersey City man was charged with theft of a motor vehicle and other charges after police stopped him inside a stolen delivery truck just after midnight Sunday.
Police charged Levi Metheny, 24, from Jersey City with burglary, theft of a motor vehicle, driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, and refusal to submit to chemical testing, they said.
Police said that around 12:19 a.m., Officer Francis McCourt and Detective Conor Milne observed a delivery truck with its lift gate down traveling southbound near Second and Washington streets. Then, the driver approached police to say his truck was just stolen.

Officer McCourt relayed the incident over the police radio. Police were able to stop the vehicle a block later, at 94 Washington St., near City Hall.
The driver was identified as Metheny.

Officer Joshua Campoverde performed a standardized field sobriety test. As a result, he placed the man under arrest and brought him to police headquarters, where he was charged. He was released to a responsible party.
The police also made three other DWI arrests last weekend, they said:
- Friday night: A 34-year-old woman from Newark, 11:32 p.m. She was charged with DWI, reckless driving, and wrong way on a one way.
- Saturday night: A 23-year-old Chester man, 6:25 p.m. DWI, reckless driving, wrong way on a one way, blocking a fire hydrant.
- Sunday morning: A man, 34, from Chino, Calif., at 4:01 a.m. Charged with DWI, reckless driving, refusal to submit to chemical testing, wrong way on a one way, and unregistered vehicle.
The Leprecon bar crawl was held all day Saturday, but police did not link the incidents to the crawl (see photos here).
