A man whom Hoboken police had charged with burglary on Jan. 14 and sent to jail was caught in the act last Wednesday, police said.

HOBOKEN, NJ — A man whom Hoboken police had charged with burglary and sent to jail on Jan. 14 was caught in the act of package theft last Wednesday and taken to jail again, police said.

Peter Perez, 42, was charged last Wednesday with burglary, possession of burglary tools, theft, drug paraphernalia, and four outstanding burglary warrants from Hoboken related to packages, police said. He was also charged on three failure-to-appear warrants.

The Hoboken police said in a release on Monday that Detectives Ryan Houghton and Michael Losurdo responded last Wednesday at 5:20 p.m. to the 100 block of Marshall Street on a report of a "male actively stealing packages."

When Houghton and Losurdo entered the building, they observed opened packages and a male whom they recognized as Perez, police say.

"The two detectives were aware that Mr. Perez had active open warrants stemming from burglary incidents that occurred in October, December, and January," police say.

Perez complied with detectives and was arrested, police say. Police say they searched him and found burglary tools and drug paraphernalia, as well as a stolen package in his bookbag.

All charges were placed on warrants and Mr. Perez was transported to the Hudson County Correctional Facility, police say.

Back on Jan. 13, according to a prior release from police, Perez and another man were arrested for two burglaries in December and taken to the Hudson County jail.

At that time, Perez's charges, listed by police, were: "Trespassing, possession of burglary tools, drug paraphernalia, conspiracy to commit burglary, and two outstanding burglary warrants out of Hoboken (packages), and conspiracy."

At that time, Perez and the other man were taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility.

A police spokesman on Monday confirmed it was the same man.
