HOBOKEN, NJ — The owner of a popular restaurant in North Bergen has moved a step closer to opening its sister restaurant in Hoboken.

Signage appeared recently for Matha's Restaurant — to be owned by the owner of Harry's Food and Drink in North Bergen, in the space formerly occupied by La Isla Uptown.

La Isla Uptown, the second site of a popular Cuban restaurant in Hoboken, closed last year. (The original downtown location, famous for Cuban sandwiches and French toast, remains open on lower Washington Street.)

Martha's social media account describes it as "A new American restaurant and bar."

According to Jersey Digs, Martha's "comes courtesy of restaurateur Alex Cabrera. ... Harry’s Food and Drink has become a go-to spot noted for their weekend brunches and Martha’s looks to build on that concept. Cabrera tells Jersey Digs that the menu at Martha’s will be an expanded version of Harry’s Food and Drink that offers reinterpretations of classic dishes."

Cabrera told the real estate site that Martha's is named after strong women, including his mother-in-law and Martha Bayard, a member of Hoboken's founding family.

The restaurant will be located at 25 12th Street.
