More Than 2 Inches Of Rain Fell In One Hudson County Town Monday

Amid flood warnings in North Jersey, more than 2 inches fell in one Hudson County town on Monday.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — After an extremely dry summer, the National Weather Service issued a flood warning during on-and-off rainstorms on Monday, saying specifically that parts of Jersey City, Bayonne, and Harrison could flood.

Hoboken, just a bit further north, was spared heavy rains.

The NWS later released rain totals for each town, from spotters. A spotter said that more than 2 inches fell in one town.

For comparison, the deadly Tropical Depression Ida last Sept. 1 dumped more than 7 inches of rain in a short time on parts of North Jersey, leaving flooded corners. However, 2 inches is a significant amount of rain.

Here are the totals that were released for Hudson County and North Jersey:

Hudson and Union County towns:

  • Harrison: 2.14 inches at 4:45 p.m.
  • Linden Airport: 1.23 inches at 4:35 p.m.

Essex County

  • West Orange: 1.78 inches as of 4:36 p.m.
  • Livingston: 1.78 inches as of 4:36 p.m.
  • Millburn: 1.36 inches at 4:15 p.m.

South Jersey experienced flash floods on Monday morning.
