Downtown Clothing Boutique Moves Around the Corner

Air Studios is adding designers after moving to 92 Hudson St.

Women's clothing boutique Air Studios has moved into a new spot at 92 Hudson St. after residing at 55 First St. for more than 13 years.

Kate Phelan, a manager at the store, said the move was meant to give Air Studios more room to grow.

“We wanted a bigger, newer space," Phelan said. "We're able to feature more designers this way and expand our image.”

The new location opened on March 10. Phelan said the store has seen more foot traffic, especially being near the PATH train station.

With the bigger space Air Studios has added to its roster of featured clothing designers, bringing in brands by Diane Von Furstenberg, Cut25, rag & bone and Andrea Lieberman.

“We want our customers to have the best clothing possible," Phelan said. "If we see we're missing something they want we pick up on that.”

The renovation work on the new location, which formerly housed another boutique called Lucy's, added exposed brick walls, hardwood floors, a marble counter and large chalkboard to the Air Studios décor.

The boutique has placed stools in front of the marble counter and will use the space to offer its customers coffee, espresso, water, candy and other treats. Phelan said Air Studios will also begin hosting special events like mimosa parties on Saturdays.

The owners of Air Studios also own the shoe boutique at 100 Bloomfield St. Phelan said Platform will soon launch an e-commerce site, and that the owners plan on opening a new store in the old Air Studios location in the spring. Phelan described the new store as conceptual and that it will sell Jersey fashion staples like leggings and swimsuits for the shore.

Coming soon: a furniture store opens midtown and a yogurt joint comes downtown.
