HOBOKEN, NJ — On the west side of Hoboken — away from the waterfront and Washington Street — shops and artists may be less visible. But they're trying to change that.

The second "West of Willow" live music and writing performance will be held later this month, and like last time, it's raising money for a nonprofit.

The event, to be held March 23 at Cafe Vista, a coffee shop at 527 Monroe St., will feature Hoboken-based musicians Elena Skye and Boo Reiners of the Demolition String Band; Hoboken-based poet Irene Vázquez who writes at the intersection of Black cultural work, placemaking, and the environment, and the three WoW founders: Vera Sirota (poet/activist), Karyn Kuhl (singer/songwriter), and Jack Silbert (author and the evening’s master of ceremonies).

West of Willow (WoW) cordially invites you to its second event, held at Cafe Vista, 527 Monroe Street in Hoboken, on March 23.

WoW’s debut event in November was a standing-room-only success.

This time, attendance will be capped, so advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended:

The link also includes information about a raffle, with prizes including gift cards to local Hoboken businesses Little City Books and the Tunes record store.

Cafe Vista’s great assortment of hot and iced drinks, light bites, baked goods, and desserts will be available for purchase during the event.

All proceeds from admission and raffle sales along with any additional donations will benefit Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan New Jersey.

WoW’s founders felt that especially during Women’s History Month — with women’s healthcare under attack across the nation — PPMNJ was a natural partner.

“Full citizenship includes the right to determine one’s reproductive destiny,” said Sirota. “Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan New Jersey is recognized as a leader in reproductive healthcare by serving patients in Essex, Hudson, and Passaic Counties. Abortion is healthcare and we are proud to support this vital organization.”

The West of Willow collective was founded by poet/activist Vera Sirota, noted Hoboken rocker/recording artist Karyn Kuhl, and author/editor Jack Silbert. Their overarching goal is to bring more culture back to Hoboken’s west side, in a relaxed, quiet atmosphere. WoW intends to always present a diverse, eclectic, and excellent slate of performers. Each edition in their ongoing series will benefit a different worthy cause or organization.
