Happening Now: National Night Out Events In Hoboken Tuesday

Hoboken will host a slate of police/community events at Church Square Park for four hours as part of the annual night out against crime.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken Will Hold Its Annual National Night Out against crime on Aug. 3, with a host of events for adults and children at Church Square Park from 5 to 9 p.m.

The city is currently seeking vendors, and some may be eligible for a free table (see more details below).

Each year, Hoboken holds events around town on that day, ranging from giveaways to public safety demonstrations to waterslides for kids.

The annual National Night Out is meant to increase vigilance against crime by encouraging police and residents to get to know each other, and for people to leave their porch lights on to meet their neighbors and take a stand against crime.

The National Night Out website states that the annual event "enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community. Furthermore, it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances."

The city of Hoboken said, "The fun-filled night, featured in communities across the nation, promotes police-community partnerships and camaraderie in an effort to make communities safer."

Free Tables For Businesses

The Hoboken Police Department and Stevens Police Department are seeking vendor participation. Hoboken business owners can sign up to participate and register for a free table by emailing Lt. Melissa Gigante at gigantem@hobokenpd.org.

Most areas hold their National Night Out events on the first Tuesday in August, and the state of Texas and select areas celebrate the first Tuesday in October.
