New Food Craze Is Causing Long Lines On Weekends In Hoboken
They're selling like hot cakes, but they're cinnamon buns: Long lines form in Hoboken each weekend at this woman-owned shop.
HOBOKEN, NJ — They're causing lines down the block, and local politicians are even advising neighbors to get to the store before it opens on weekends.
The new cinnamon buns offered at The Hive — a woman-owned corner coffee shop in Hoboken with a kids' playroom in the back — are getting tongues wagging and watering around town.
They're only offered Saturday and Sunday starting at 8 a.m., and lines are already forming when they come out piping hot.

"You’ve got to plan ahead to get a hot cinnamon roll at The Hive," advised Councilwoman Phil Cohen in his newsletter on Friday morning. "Owners Kristin and Catherine decided to whip up something special this winter, making 100 cinnamon rolls on Saturday mornings and another 100 cinnamon rolls on Sunday mornings ... people have been lining up before the store’s opening."
On Instgram, the owners said they tried 12 recipes before debuting the buns last month.

Co-owner Catherine Willhoit said that the buns are only sold four per customer, $8 each, and may stay on the menu for just another month.
"We make them in small batches and bake them fresh in our small oven," she said. "Everything is homemade, from the filling to the dough to the frosting."
She noted, "People have been coming from all over. One woman drove an hour from Edison to buy buns."
The two moms who started the business posted on Instagram that they're are meant to hit the spot for the season: "If anything will get us out of bed on a cold winter Saturday, it’s homemade cinnamon rolls."
The Hive opened in fall of 2020 at the site of a former Hoboken meat shop. Find out more about it here.
