New Knitting Studio Now Open

Do Ewe Knit is located at 155 6th Street.

“I want everyone to learn how to knit,” says Karen Posniak, the owner of new knitting studio Do Ewe Knit, located at 155 6th Street.

Posniak said she grew up in a family of knitters, but only rediscovered the craft ten years ago, and has since found she considers it a passion. She recently moved to Hoboken from Westfield and decided to open her first studio here in the Mile Square.

The studio sells yarn and accessories, offers classes for beginners, and provides a space for experienced knitters to gather, share tips and socialize, especially during a free and open knitting night every Wednesday from 6-8pm.

“It's a place for hanging out, having coffee, meeting friends and making friends,” Posniak said.

Posniak said she rediscovered knitting at a time when many other people were getting interested in it too. The historically popular craft, which perhaps had lost practitioners over recent years, seems to be enjoying a renaissance.

“People still want a hobby, something they can enjoy,” Posniak said. “This is something where we can all sit together and connect.”

The knitting studio spreads over two floors, with the upstairs featuring a large wood dining table and also a small room for classes, and the downstairs featuring a couch and coffee table and shelves for yarn and supplies. There are also several vintage end tables and cabinets throughout the studio, which all come from Posniak's home.

“I wanted people to walk downstairs and feel like they're entering a French salon,” Posniak said.

Posniak said she and her husband moved to Hoboken because they wanted to downsize their home. She said though she misses suburban living she has felt welcome here. She praised the men of the Juventus club next door who visit every day and bring her fresh cappuccino.

“I'm getting used to it,” Posniak said. “People are very friendly here.”

Posniak said she plans on having a grand opening day in the next few weeks. In the meantime, visit the Do Ewe Knit website for more information.
