New Store Sells Clothes for Women and Men

Hoboken has a new clothing store, one that sells apparel for both women and men. The Iconic Fashion Lounge at 509 Washington Street opened last Saturday.

Owner Lauren Proske said the concept behind the Lounge is to offer customers a place that is “relaxed and inviting.”

Proske worked in wholesale in both New York and Los Angeles before getting involved in retail. She said she grew to enjoy the more direct access to customers that retail entails.

“I dipped my feet in retail and found that I liked the relationship aspect of it,” she said.

Proske said she is already getting to know her customers. “The nicest and most amazing people have come here,” she said.

Proske said she recently moved to Hoboken and that that prompted her decision to open Iconic in the Mile Square.

“I wanted to open in a place where I lived in and where I can be a part of the community,” she said. “I didn't want this to be just a job.”

She said she particularly likes being located midtown on Washington Street. “I think it's great,” she said. “I like being in the middle of everything.”

Iconic currently has two additional employees, and Proske said she is receptive to hiring more.

Proske said her store will sell as much men's clothing as it does women's. Many of the items are appropriate for both business casual and social occasions.

The lounge will cater to men in one additional aspect. For husbands and boyfriends who hate getting dragged on shopping trips, Proske said the Lounge will have a television tuned into the game.
