Newark Penn to Journal Square: PATH Service Returns Tuesday Afternoon

See when PATH service is scheduled to return between Newark Penn Station and Journal Square.

It’s back.

On Tuesday afternoon, Port Authority of NY/NJ officials announced that PATH service between Newark Penn Station and Journal Square will resume at 2 p.m., following “round-the-clock efforts by roughly 650 PATH workers and contractors to clear tracks, third-rail equipment, signals and switches after the weekend’s blizzard blanketed the rail line with snowdrifts ranging from 4 feet to 16 feet high.”

According to Port Authority officials, PATH service at both Newark Penn and Harrison stations, suspended since the height of Saturday’s storm, will be back for this afternoon’s commute home on the restored Newark-World Trade Center line, though riders are cautioned there may be some residual delays.

“Our PATH crews and contractors are to be commended for their commitment to getting this done in the face of freezing temperatures, significant manual labor and staggering snowdrifts,’’ said PATH Director and General Manager Mike Marino. “We thank them and also NJ Transit for cross-honoring PATH tickets on their trains and buses, and for providing extra bus shuttle service between Newark, Harrison, and Journal Square this morning to help ease the inconvenience for our riders.”

NJ Transit cross-honoring will continue until 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Port Authority officials stated.

“Test trains early this afternoon certified the track’s readiness between Journal Square and Newark... With resumption of that section of track, all four PATH lines are now fully in service,” officials said.
