Newport Centre Mall Macy’s May Get Reprieve From Nationwide Closures

The Newport Centre Mall location in Jersey City was not listed among the stores that will be closed in 2017, according to Macy's.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — The Macy’s store at the Newport Centre Mall in Jersey City may be getting a reprieve.

The location is not on Wednesday’s list of 68 Macy’s stores slated to close nationwide by the end of 2017, but three other New Jersey locations are, including the stores in Moorestown, Voorhees and Wayne.

The Jersey City store is located between the mall's South Garage and light rail stop.

Employees who work at stores that are closing will be offered positions at nearby stores "where possible," Macy's says, and eligible part- and full-time employees will receive severance benefits.

Macy’s stated that the closures are necessary in order to save more money, reinvest it in e-commerce and give a smaller number of stores a better customer experience.
