NJ Lawyer Matthew Nilo, Accused Of Boston Rapes, Pleads Not Guilty In 4 More Attacks
Hudson County, NJ lawyer Matthew Nilo, accused last month of rapes in Boston in 2007 and 2008, pleaded not guilty to attacking 4 more women.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — After Weehawken resident Matthew Nilo was charged last month with four sexual assaults of women in Boston a decade ago — weeks after he was initially charged with attacking four other women — Nilo has pleaded not guilty to the new charges, the Boston Globe reported Thursday.
Nilo, 35, pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges reported on June 28, including rape, aggravated rape, assault with intent to rape, and indecent assault.
Nilo was arrested in his Weehawken home on May 30 after Boston investigators — relying on modern DNA technology — tied Nilo to four attacks in 2007 and 2008 in the Charlestown neighborhood of Boston.

During the time of the alleged attacks, Nilo was a 19-year-old University of Wisconsin student on break, staying at his home in the North End of Boston.
Last month, Nilo was able to post $500,000 bail in Boston in connection with those initial charges. He agreed to wear a monitoring bracelet, surrender his passport, and stay away from the area where the incidents were reported.

Then, in late June, he was indicted on the new charges, related to attacks on four more women during that time period.
On Thursday, he was freed on an additional $50,000 in bail. His lawyer said he will fight the charges, the Boston Globe reported.
Nilo's May 30 arrest made international headlines due to the peculiarities of the case: the use of modern DNA technology for crime-solving, and the fact that Nilo was, until recently, employed as a cyber-attorney in New York City.
One 2007 rape victim told the media that she was disappointed that Nilo was freed on bail, but glad he was captured. She said that at the time of her attack, she was a club promoter in Boston. She said a man pulled up to her and offered her a ride. She declined, then realized he had a gun.
Police are now trying to connect Nilo — who grew up in Boston and attended the prestigious Boston Latin School — to crimes near other places where he had lived and attended school.
He graduated from the University of Wisconsin and went to law school in San Francisco, according to his LinkedIn page, which was deleted this month.
He was recently engaged, according to a Facebook post that has also been deleted.
