NJ Man, 24, Falls Off Cliff, Dies While Taking Pictures

The man was hiking with two friends when he attempted to take a position near the ledge to obtain a better picture, police said.

A 24-year-old man died this week when he fell off a cliff while taking pictures in New York State, police said. Authorities had to wait overnight to pull the man from a gully.

The Harrison man, who was not identified, died at Jensen’s Ledge at the Bouchoux Trail State Preserve, which overlooks the Delaware River, according to police.

The incident happened at approximately 6:31 p.m. on Sunday when Sullivan County 911 dispatch received a call that a man had fallen in Jensen’s Ledge. A Sullivan County Deputy was able to locate the man and confirmed he was dead, police said.

An investigation revealed the man was hiking with two friends when he attempted to take a position near the ledge to obtain a better picture then slipped off, police said.

New York State Police, New York State Forest Rangers, Hancock Fire Department, Long Eddy Fire Department and Beach Lake Pennsylvania Fire Department arrived on scene. Because of the time of day, with limited light and difficult terrain, officials determined the male would be extricated in the morning.

New York State Forest Rangers stayed with the body through the night, police said.

The male was extricated at approximately 2:45 p.m. on Monday by the New York State Forest Rangers and Hancock Fire Department an taken to a local funeral home.

Identification of the male is currently being held pending notification of his family.
