New York Man Finds His Car In Hoboken With $10K In Drugs In Trunk

The man rents his car out through Getaround. He located it in Hoboken and found methamphetamine in it.

HOBOKEN, NJ — The Hoboken police said that a New York City man located his car, which he rents out, in Hoboken last Wednesday with $10,000 in drugs inside. Police subsequently arrested a different New York City resident.

Police said that around 9:56 p.m. on Wednesday, Sgt. Luke Zeszotarski and Officer Arturo Gonzalez were dispatched to meet the owner of a vehicle who found illegal drugs inside his vehicle. It was parked in Hoboken.

Police said the owner rents his vehicles through a phone application called Getaround. Last Wednesday, the vehicle had been towed by Getaround from New York City to Hoboken because Getaround believed the vehicle was left abandoned.

Police said that upon inspecting the vehicle in Hoboken, the owner located suspected methamphetamine, gamma hydroxybutyrate and drug paraphernalia. The methamphetamine has an approximate street value of $10,000, police said in a summary, and the gamma hydroxybutyrate (GHB) has an approximate street value $200.

Zeszotarski notified Det. Sgt. William Collins, who conducted an investigation with Det. Connor Milne, Officer Mark Mullins, Det. Adam Colon, and Det. Andrew Perez.

Thursday, the investigation led to arresting Mathew S. Laneve, 31, from New York City, in the area of 16th and Clinton streets with the assistance of ESU Sergeant Zeszotarski and ESU Officer Francis McCourt.

Laneve was charged on a warrant with possession with intent to distribute (PWITD) methamphetamine, PWITD methamphetamine within 500 feet of a public park, PWITD methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a school, PWITD gamma hydroxybutyrate, PWITD gamma hydroxybutyrate 500 feet of a public park, PWITD gamma hydroxybutyrate 1,000 feet of a school, PWITD drug paraphernalia, possession of a control dangerous substance oxycodone, and uttering forged documents.

The defendant is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
