Primary Election Guide For Hudson County: Where To Vote Tuesday
Come back to Patch to see the numbers come in for New Jersey's and Hudson County's primary elections on Tuesday night.

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — Just because the presidential primary isn't happening Tuesday, doesn't mean you should avoid voting on Primary Election Day in New Jersey.
In a primary, candidates vie to be the nominee for their party. Then they face the opposing party in November, and independents can also enter the race.
Several local races are contested in the primary. These races could help determine how local government will spend your tax dollars, and which programs it offers your town.

Races To Watch In Hudson County
County Executive:
Only five counties in New Jersey have a paid Hudson County executive. Hudson County's executive — up for election this year — oversees the administration of county parks, roads, the jail, personnel, and other facilities.
But who will get the nomination from their party to replace outgoing County Executive Tom DeGise this November?
Right now, DeGise's chief of staff, Craig Guy, is hoping to get the Democratic nomination in the June 6 New Jersey primary, and he's backed by the powerful Hudson County Democratic Organization. But he faces opposition in the primary by Eleana Little, backed by the Hudson County Progressive Democrats.
See a video Q&A involving the pair here.
Board Of Commissioners (formerly known as county freeholders):
Hudson County is also overseen by a nine-member Board of Commissioners, once called the county freeholders.
Incumbent Anthony Romano, who represents Hoboken and Jersey City Heights, is being challenged by Ron Bautista of the Progressive Democrats. Both Democratic candidates live in Hoboken.
Republican candidate Joseph Branco of Hoboken faces no opposition in the primary, but will face a Democrat and possibly independents in November.
Here are some other races affecting Hoboken and Jersey City:
State Senate:
- 32nd District (Hudson): The primary is uncontested. In November, incumbent State Sen. Raj Mukherji (D) will face Ilyas Mohammed (R)
Even if these initial races are uncontested, political observers sometimes look to the numbers to see how their candidates will do against opponents in November.
State Assembly (2 seats per district):
- 32nd District (Hudson): The primaries are unopposed. Thus, candidates John Allen (D) and Jessica Ramirez (D) will face Robert Ramos (R) and Alex Garcia (R) in November.
Even if these initial races are uncontested, political observers sometimes look to the numbers to see how their candidates will do against opponents in November.
November-Only Races
Hoboken has six ward City Council seats up for election in November, each one representing a section of town. However, there are no primaries. Candidates must file to run by the end of August. See who's entered the Hoboken council races so far, here.
