Protesters Hit NYC Corporate Media Summit: Verizon Strike 2016 Update
Striking Verizon workers have announced that they plan to protest at the MoffettNathanson Media Summit in NYC.

May 19, 2016 – Verizon and its nearly 40,000 striking workers may have agreed to a media blackout regarding contract discussions this week, but confrontations continue to rage in public outside the negotiations room.
On Thursday, members of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) announced plans to protest outside MoffettNathanson Media and Communications Summit at the Le Parker Meridien Hotel in New York City, where a Verizon executive was slated to speak at 8 a.m.

The annual conference includes speakers from several multi-national corporations. In addition to Verizon, past corporate representation at the conference has included companies such as Comcast, The Walt Disney Company, Cinemark Holdings, CBS Corporation, T-Mobile, Viacom, Time-Warner and 21st Century Fox.
According to a Wednesday news release from Verizon, the company – which is headquartered in New York City - generated nearly $132 billion of revenue in 2015.

The protest comes on the heels of the U.S. Department of Labor’s announcement that it was sending a federal mediator to help restart talks between the company and its striking employees this week.

In addition, striking workers have called for a "National Family and Kids Day of Action" on Saturday, May 21.
