JERSEY CITY, NJ — A Jersey City based activist said this week that he expects at least 75 people to attend the Jersey City council meeting on Wednesday night to ask Councilwoman Amy DeGise to resign following her crash with a biker last month, for which she was cited for leaving the scene of an accident.

On July 19 at 7:58 a.m., Uber Eats bicyclist Andrew Black rode his bike through a red light in Jersey City and was hit by Amy DeGise's SUV, causing him to flip into the air and land in the street, according to a police report and video of the incident. The shocking video, in which DeGise doesn't appear to slow down, has prompted calls for her to resign.

DeGise also reported the crash six hours later, another video showed.

DeGise was issued two summonses for failure to report an accident and leaving the scene of an accident.

Since then, more than 6,040 people have signed a petition for her to resign, and two councilmen have asked for her to resign as well.

DeGise has said she will not resign and that eventually she will release more of the facts. The court case was recently moved to the jurisdiction of Essex County Superior Court.

DeGise, who is the daughter of County Executive Tom DeGise and a former Jersey City Board of Education president, has not yet faced the public, but will do so if she appears at Wednesday's council meeting at 6 p.m.

On Monday, former congressional candidate Hector Oseguera said he expects at least 75 people to come to the meeting to ask her to resign.

"People in Hudson County have a very cynical view of politics, precisely because of people like Amy DeGise," Oseguera said. "We are told that justice is blind, that no one is above the law, but in Hudson County the politically connected live as if the rules don't apply to them. We ask that people show up at the City Council meeting to voice their disgust, because we live under a system engineered to protect those who are lucky enough to be part of an elite political class."

After the crash, NJ.com reported that she had failed to pay numerous parking tickets, and has been living in an affordable housing unit all while owning property in the city.

City Hall is located at 280 Grove St., a short walk from the Grove Street PATH station. More information on the meeting is here. The city does not stream the meetings virtually.

Megan Carolan, who started the petition, said that the protestors are now on the council agenda to speak. To sign up, go here.
