Rec Leagues Come to Jersey Shore

slow-pitch coed softball and bar shuffleboard leagues in Asbury Park and Jersey Shore

ASBURY PARK, Dec. 6, 2016 -- The ABL (American Ballplayers League) will launch a new series of adult rec leagues in the Asbury Park area at the Jersey Shore, one of the area’s most vibrant and popular destinations. With a focus on fun and competitive spirit, the new leagues will be geared towards athletic-minded adults looking for an organized and exciting league experience.

Featuring men’s and coed style recreational and competitive divisions in softball, basketball, flag football and bar shuffleboard, the Jersey Shore leagues are an appealing seasonal activity for an area that is attracting more young professionals each year. Asbury Park’s bevy of bars and restaurants make it the hot spot at the Shore for fun-loving adults. It’s the perfect area of play for the ABL’s coed softball, basketball, flag football and bar shuffleboard Leagues, which offer a fun, competitive experience for area residents.

“”The ABL’s Jersey Shore League will highlight our commitment to providing the most organized, entertaining rec sports league experience for young professionals. We’re really excited to grow the league down here at the Shore. There are a ton of fitness-minded adults in Asbury, Shark River, Belmar and the surrounding area looking to “relive the glory days”. It’s just a great way to bond with friends, meet some good people, have fun and compete. And of course, the fun continues with post-game beers at the local tavern - and you never know who you’re gonna meet. It’s how i met my wife back in 2013.”

Ross had just finished up playing a softball game at Stevens Tech in Hoboken, NJ when he and his teammates decided to celebrate at Mikie Squared, a local bar on Washington Street. He ended up meeting Evey, and they’re now married with 2 kids.

“Playing in a rec league was the best decision i ever made. Hey, it’s where the magic happens I guess.”

Last year, the ABL hosted it’s inaugural bar shuffleboard league at the Asbury Ale House Cookman Ave. Teams battle it out each week for a chance to win the league’s famed trophy - Lord Shufflepuck Cup.

"I enjoy participating in social sports leagues, and I'm glad I found ABL when I moved to Asbury Park from Manhattan,” said local resident Mikey Rox. “I joined the shuffleboard league, which was a ton of fun, especially during the winter when there are limited activities in a beach town. The season was competitive, and I met a lot of great people with similar interests as myself. I'm looking forward to the next season."

The ABL’s winter basketball and shuffleboard season games start in February on Sundays and Weeknights, depending on which league you join. For details and info, please visit www.joinABL.com and @joinABL on Twitter and Instagram.
