Hoboken Gas Leak Plugged, Officials Explain What Happened
A school was evacuated and a block of Hoboken was closed due to a gas leak, officials said.
HOBOKEN, NJ — After an elementary school in Hoboken was evacuated due to a gas leak on Thursday, officials said the leak had been plugged and PSE&G gas utility crews were fixing the problem.
The leak was reported on the 800 block of Park Avenue around noon. That block of Park Avenue, from Eighth to Ninth Street, was closed.
Brandt Elementary School students were evacuated safely to nearby Hoboken High School, said Office of Emergency Management Officials.

In a message, the Brandt School principal said, "A short while ago, the crew working on the water lines on Park Ave accidentally hit a gas line. Out of an abundance of caution, we evacuated Brandt and proceeded to our evacuation site of Hoboken High School. We are all safe."
Because schools were to have a half day for President's Day weekend, he said he would communicate with families about dismissal.
