Second Coronavirus Death Reported In Hoboken

The woman who passed away was the mother of two Hoboken police detectives.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla said Thursday night that coronavirus had claimed its second victim in the city, a woman named Carmen Rivera. She was the mother of Hoboken Police Detectives John and Fabien Quinones.

She passed away at Hoboken University Medical Center, Bhalla said.

"Earlier today, I called and spoke to the family to send my deepest condolences and mourn with them and the entire Hoboken Police Department for the tragic loss," he wrote.

As of Thursday night, there were 23 new confirmed cases of coronavirus in the mile-square city, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 152.

The mayor noted that the testing center that recently opened in uptown Hoboken will soon be accessible to all residents, rather than just those who are patients of Riverside Medical Group.
