Second Water Main Break In Hoboken In 2 Days
Water crews responded to a main break in Hoboken on Black Friday, the second in two days.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Crews from Veolia responded on Black Friday to the second water main break in Hoboken in two days, this one in the center of town.

The day before, most of Hoboken was without water at 6 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning due to a water main break near Observer Highway.

Veolia isolated the 16-inch main and restored water to most parts of town by noon, but by 4 p.m. one nearby building remained without water, they said.

Water main breaks in Hoboken have become a periodic occurrence as the city fixes the roads and 100-year-old combined sewer system. The city said that in 2021, "Hoboken had a total of 12 water main breaks, almost half the total of water main breaks in 2020."
