Surprise Fireworks On Hudson River? Yo, NYC And Jersey City, They're Expected In Hoboken
This year's surprise fireworks on the Hudson River won't be a surprise. So NYC, Hoboken, and Jersey City, hide your dogs and babies Sept. 9.

HOBOKEN, NJ — Unexpected fireworks have riled residents of New York City and Hoboken over the past few years, especially for political fundraisers.
And when they come around the 9/11 anniversary, folks are sometimes a bit unnerved.
So here's advanced notice for Saturday night, Sept. 9, 2023.

The traditional Hoboken Italian Festival, otherwise known as the feast of the Madonna dei Martieri, runs through Sunday. They've tentatively scheduled fireworks for Saturday night, Sept. 9, at 9 p.m.
The Ciao USA fireworks will take place on Pier A, which juts into the Hudson River across from lower Manhattan. People in Jersey City will likely hear and see them too.

The festival also includes rides, games, food, and tables for community organizations.
As the website notes, "The tradition of the Madonna Dei Martiri goes back to 1399. Ladislao di Durazzo, King of Napoli, ordered the Street festival & Religious celebration be combined to celebrate the 'Miracle' and blessings of the Madonna."

Incidentally, if the Jersey side of the river looks packed Saturday, Jersey City is having its large annual Downtown Jersey City Festival also.
