JERSEY CITY, NJ — A sushi restaurant with an express belt and revolving sushi bar opened Sunday in Jersey City's Newport Tower, a short walk from the Hudson River waterfront and PATH station.

The interactive experience has some futuristic features, including a drink-delivering robot.

"Kur-B the KuraBot delivers drink orders tableside," the company noted. "How this works is, once our waitstaff receives a notification about a party’s drink order, they place the beverages on Kur-B and program it to deliver to the corresponding table. With the added features to the tablets, guests can place their drink orders directly on the tablet and check-out on their mobile phone."

This is the restaurant group's second location in New Jersey, after having opened in Fort Lee in September 2020.

The restaurant group said it's been improving its authentic Japanese dishes and unique technology since the parent company opened its first restaurant in Japan in 1977.

Kura Sushi boasts the “Kura Experience." It features:

  • A two-layered conveyor belt system: Revolving Sushi Bar & Express Belt.
  • Bikkura Pon Prize System: Unique Japanese prizes are received for every 15 sushi plates.

Hours

In celebration of the first two opening days (Nov. 27-28), dine-in guests were offered a free Kura original sushi towel.

The eatery is open 12-9 p.m. those days. Starting Nov. 30, their hours are:

Sunday-Thursday 11-10
Friday-Saturday 11-10:30
