Teen Fatally Shot In Jersey City, Man Charged With Murder: Prosecutors
A 17-year-old boy was fatally shot in Jersey City near the Hoboken border. A Hudson County man was charged with his murder.
JERSEY CITY, NJ — A 17-year-old boy was shot to death in Jersey City on Saturday night, and a Bayonne man has been charged with murder, prosecutors said.
The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office said that at approximately 8:02 p.m., the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a shooting in the area of 16th Street and Coles Street. Officers found the injured teen, Isaiah Velasquez, 17, of Jersey City, with an apparent gunshot wound to the
torso.

He was transported to Jersey City Medical Center and pronounced dead at approximately
8:57 p.m., prosecutors said.

Prosecutors charged Isaiah McCord, 22, of Bayonne on Sunday with murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose.
He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and is being detained at the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance, prosecutors said.

Second Jersey City Teen Shot This Month
Three weeks ago, a 15-year-old boy, Tyshawn Smith, was shot to death in Jersey City.
As of Sunday, the city has reported nine homicides this year. There was also a death in Jersey City city limits in February that was not counted in the city's statistic, as the victim, Luz Hernandez, was found in Kearny. The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office counted that death in Kearny statistics rather than Jersey City.
