Trendy Tableware for the Eco-friendly Party Host

Bio and Chic, which sells biodegradable tableware, is now open at 262 First Street.

Bio and Chic, the new downtown store that sells eco-friendly disposable tableware, opened on Monday.

, Bio and Chic, located at 262 First St., is the first retail storefront of a family owned French company, First Pack, that serves as a tableware vendor to wholesale clients like casinos and Madison Square Garden.

Adam Merran, who oversees First Pack's U.S. operation out of a Hoboken office, had the idea to open the retail store. Bio and Chic sells stylish tableware, including plates, serving trays, utensils, napkins and cookware that is made out of natural and biodegradable products such as bamboo, sugar cane and palm leaves.

“The idea is to take cool items and offer them to the Hoboken community,” Merran said. For example he cited a typical customer as someone who wants to add character to his or her dinner party or cookout.

Merran said for now the store is open Monday through Friday from 11am-7pm, with plans to eventually also open on the weekend. As part of its grand opening Bio and Chic is offering a special sale to customers who visit the store – buy two items and get a third of the same kind for free.

Customers can also shop on the Bio and Chic website. Merran said he plans on displaying several of his biodegradable tableware items during the city of Hoboken's
