UPDATE: Man Charged With Hitting Boy With Car In Hudson County

HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — A man has been arrested and charged with assault by auto after police in Hudson County shared a video of an 11-year-old boy getting hit by a car on the way to school on Tuesday.

On Friday, Oct. 20, North Bergen Police arreted Julio Seoane-Alamo, 57, of North Bergen, charging him with assault by auto and other offenses, they said.

The arrest came a day after police posted a video on social media of a boy crossing through an intersection on the way to school. A car hits the boy and keeps going.

The boy made it to school and told the teacher what happened, officials said.

Police said that on Tuesday, they "were notified of a hit-and-run motor vehicle collision involving a juvenile pedestrian in the area of 76th Street and Hudson Avenue. The driver of a 2021 gray Ford Explorer failed to stop at the stop sign, struck the 11-year-old victim while he was in the crosswalk, and continued driving eastbound towards Broadway."

The boy suffered minor injuries, police said.

During the investigation, detectives were eventually able to identify the license plate of the driver, they said.

Seoane-Alamo has been charged with assault by auto, endangering the welfare of a child, and endangering an injured victim.

He was also issued summonses for reckless driving, failure to yield right of way, leaving the scene of a collision involving personal injury, and failure to report a collision.

He was released and awaits his first court appearance.

According to New Jersey law, "Pedestrians have the right-of-way at all intersections, including intersections with no crosswalk markings." This intersection also had a stop sign. (Read the law here.)

He added, "We will continue working tirelessly to ensure the safety of all of our children and pedestrians by investing in measures including street lighting, crosswalks, and educational programs that raise awareness about safe road practices."
