NORTH BERGEN, NJ — The police in North Bergen are seeking the driver of a vehicle that hit a boy in a crosswalk on Tuesday morning, then kept going.

In a video (below) that the police posted on social media Thursday, the boy is seen crossing at an intersection on a sunny, clear morning. Suddenly, a car appears, strikes him, and keeps going.

The child walks back to the corner to pick up an object, then appears to realize he's hurt. He limps over to a woman pushing a stroller, and the woman helps the boy across the street.

"We are currently conducting an active investigation into a motor vehicle accident that occurred on Tuesday, October 17th at 8:16 a.m. The incident involves a Gray Ford Explorer manufactured between 2020 and 2024, bearing New Jersey license plates. The vehicle is also equipped with tinted windows and a tinted windshield,"police posted to social media. "The victim involved in the accident is an 11-year-old boy. In addition, we are seeking to identify a female witness who was dressed in black and was observed pushing a baby carriage at the time of the incident."

Police told the media that after the boy got to school, he informed officials of what had happened.

According to New Jersey law, "Pedestrians have the right-of-way at all intersections, including intersections with no crosswalk markings." This intersection also had a stop sign. (Read the law here.)
