Or maybe they just wanted something to do on a Tuesday night.

Whatever the reason, despite a soaking rain and chilly weather, about 70 people spent the night camping out at the parking deck of the Newport Centre Mall in Jersey City, hoping to be one of the first 100 people to win free Chick-fil-A for a year as part of the new restaurant’s grand opening promotion.

On Wednesday, the national restaurant – famous for their “Eat Mor Chikin” ad campaign –opened its first location in Jersey City at the Newport Centre Mall.

As part of their grand opening event, the restaurant promised to give away “free Chick-fil-A for a year to the first 100 adults in line when the restaurant opens that morning.”
Winners will receive a digital offer card loaded with 52 free Chick-fil-A meals, a total of more than $32,000 in free food, according to a company release.
