Woman Crashes Into West Elm Store While Leaving Tight Hoboken Parking Spot: Police

There was a woman in Hoboken in a tight spot. She thought her car was in reverse. But it was not.

HOBOKEN, NJ — A woman who was trying to get out of a tight Hoboken parking spot on Sunday night accidentally crashed her car into a West Elm furniture store near the city's northern entrance, police said Monday.

The crash occurred around 10:03 p.m. near 1420 Willow Ave., a heavily trafficked corner.

Police said the woman was in a white Mercedes Benz, "attempting to pull out of a tight motor vehicle space. After several times of moving back and forth, she reported mounting the curb, which caused her vehicle's sensors to sound."

"This caused the bike rack to dislodge from the ground. She then tried to reverse out and struck the door frame of West Elm Furniture. The [driver] was put through a standardized field sobriety test by Police Officer Harold Milne and passed."

No one was summonsed in the crash, and there were no injuries, police said.

The corner is near several large businesses such as a Trader Joe's and a Rite Aid pharmacy, as well as entrances to town including the 14th Street Viaduct.
