JERSEY CITY, NJ — Police are investigating the death of a woman found on 18th Street in Jersey City, a few blocks from the Holland Tunnel, a Jersey City police spokeswoman confirmed.

The Jersey City police responded to the area of 18th Street and Jersey Avenue around 6:52 p.m. on Thursday, the spokesperson said.

"Upon arrival, JCPD officers observed a female who was later determined to be" deceased, Kimberly Wallace-Scalcione said.

The state Medical Examiner's Office responded to determine a cause of death, but the death does not appear suspicious at this time, Wallace-Scalcione said.

NJ.com reported that a passerby phoned police after seeing the woman twice over a few hours and realizing she hadn't moved.
