A hat trick for Bair in Holmdel Girls overtime win over Rumson;

In a thrilling overtime win, sophomore Gabriella Bair scored three goals, to lift undefeated Holmdel Girls Varsity to a 3-0 record (3-0;2-0).

Bair scored the first goal on a pass from senior midfielder Ariel Toy less than 4 minutes into the first half.  The second came with 31:04 remaining in the first half to give Holmdel a 2-0 lead.  But Rumson-Fair Haven  battled back, scoring their first goal on a header with 24:16 to go in the first half.  RFH scored again less than 5 minutes into  the second half.    The two teams battled back and forth but with the help of a friendly bounce off the post and a strong defensive effort by goalkeeper Helen Burleigh, regulation play ended in a 2-2 tie.

The Hornets headed into overtime, their second overtime ending in three games.  With just under two minutes remaining in the first  overtime, Hannah Lee battled down the field and passed the ball perfectly to Bair, who tipped the ball into the net for the victory and her third goal of the night.

The Holmdel Girls Varsity team takes on Monmouth Regional at home on Wednesday night at 5:30 p.m.  This is another divisional opponent and the girls look to extend their unbeaten streak to 4.  Please come out and cheer them on.

The Boys Varsity suffered a tough loss tonight at home as they fell to Rumson-Fair Haven 3-2.  Happy Birthday to freshman Santo Arena who scored his first varsity goal on a pass from Eric D'Aleo in the first 30 seconds of the game.      Rumson scored next on a header tying the score at 1 a piece  and then took the lead on a second goal off a set play and were able to head into halftime up 2-1.

The Hornets came out strong in the second half with a goal by Jason Kyriacou from D'Aleo,  in the first 20 seconds of the second half to tie the score at 2.  But it wasn't meant to be the Boys' night.  Rumson scored their third and final goal with a shot from Eamon Kitson from the 20 yard line to give them the lead and ultimately the win.  RFH remains unbeaten.  Holmdel suffers its first loss of the season (2-1;1-1).  The Holmdel Varsity Boys  play again this Wednesday at Monmouth Regional at 3:45.  Come on out and cheer them on to a win.
