A Sporting Tribute to a Well Loved Coach

The Michael C. Germinario softball field was dedicated on Sunday.

On Sunday, over 200 people gathered at the lower Satz Softball Field to celebrate a selfless community HYAA coach who made a big impact on Holmdel.

Michael C. Germinario died last year, and now a township playing field has been named in his honor. At the ceremony on July 31, Deputy Mayor Serena DiMaso officially dedicated the field and declared the day to be named in his honor.

Louise Germinario, his wife of 25 years, spoke to the friends and coaches at the event with her two children Christopher and Cassandra by her side. Here is what she said:

"I can’t think of a better way to commemorate Michael. Coaching was his passion. The kids and I cannot be more thankful that he touched the hearts of all of you, especially the kids he coached, in such a positive way.

To say we miss him is an understatement, but to know how he lived and loved is an inspiration that will be with us forever. To have all of you here today and this field in his name is a privilege and a honor.

There are so many of you that  worked to make this happen, so thank all of you (too many to mention by name), HYAA, the Board of Education and the Township Committee. A special thanks to Bob Brady, who mounted the sign and prepared the field, to Tom Hyland and Gerry DiMaso who coordinated today’s events, and thank all of you for coming today.

Let’s play ball!”

After the National Anthem was played, a first pitch was thrown by Cassandra to her brother Christopher and a few innings of softball were played by parents and children to christen the field.
