Responding officers were on Hastings Road within minutes and began a search of the area. Police K-9 units responded from both Red Bank and Matawan, as well. There was a thorough search of Hastings Road and the surrounding streets and properties.
Shortly after officers responded to the area, a Middletown police officer tried to stop a dark-colored Chevrolet sedan with New Jersey plates; the car was occupied by three black men. Police did not make clear why Middletown police originally tried to stop that car. However, the vehicle did not stop and was pursed by the officer onto the Garden State Parkway in the southbound lanes. The pursuit was later stopped due to the high rate of speed.
